Club Cleire , Cape Clear Island, is a social club located in an old store building perched beside the picturesque North Harbour of Cape Clear Island which lies 8 miles off the coast of West Cork., Ireland. The Club was founded by local Community Cooperative Cape Clear Co Op
in the 1970's and since then has been at the center of the community and social life of this small Island community. The Club promotes traditional and other forms of music, Irish language, culture and art and provides facilities to a variety of local groups which promote the common good.
This web page was commissioned in April 2007 at the request of the Islands young people. It provides information and photos of many past events as well as a comprehensive guide to upcoming events. It introduces various musicians and artists and will, we hope, encourage others to contact us and to visit our beautiful Island.
Traditional music sessions take place every weekend in June, July and August and visiting musicians and singers of all kinds are always more than welcome to join in. Many a wonderful night has been passed in Club Cléire when our local musicians have been joined by rock, country & western, blues, jazz musicians, often mad drummers as well as singers in any language from Gaelic to Swahili. This is truly where trad meets jam.
As this is a licensed club visitors or newcomers to the Island who are interested in being involved are advised to inquire locally about membership.
Yearly membership is a modest €5.
So see you some time in the Club !.
